The end of hand luggage - Only bordom is this our future
BRITISH police say they have foiled a plot to smuggle explosive devices in airline hand luggage to blow up planes in mid-flight.
As a consequence, all hand luggage was banned and passengers were being hand-searched and told they could not carry anything in their pockets when boarding their flights. Only essential items were being allowed on board - and they must be carried in clear plastic bags.
As much as we here at Footprints believe measures must be taken to insure the safety of us the backpacker it makes you wonder if the airport security measures are any good at all! In this day and age can they not detect such substances and make sure our flights are safe?
We have just booked flights home and back again here to Oz does this mean now that our long flight will be even more of a boar than normal. Does this mean that business people are no longer able to work in flight? We say airport security and scanning should be stepped up, and even the so called random luggage search should be well maybe not so random.
Of course it is hard to see whom might be a potential terrorist or nutter, but is there not people trained for such tasks? We the public have to suffer again, some of the blame has to land some where.
The UK Department of Transport had released a statement about the decision to ban all hand luggage on flights departing UK airports. It included a list of what can be taken on board.
While it is expected that this extreme measure will be in place for a limited time only, it is expected to throw UK airports into a state of chaos as unaware passengers deal with the hell that check-in will become.
Have your say is this too extreme?
And we’d especially like to hear from anyone who is coming through any UK airports over the following days.

Flippin hell. This is getting riduculous. Sadly my visa is up and next month I have to return to the U.K and now with all of this, I am not looking forward to it one bit.
Why can't they just scan each person individually? I have no problem with that. Wouldnt it make more sense?
Its all getting out of control. Ease up on the security and the madness.
Hello, wouldn't you rather that than be blown up ? I think its great that they have stepped up security. Lets hope the rest of the world follows.
How are we ment to travel like this? This really pisses me off. I always have a backpack on me with everything from baby wipes to 3 pairs of squishy socks.
Is this just temporary or for ever?

I have always travelled with my day pack with camera iPod and valuables in it. It is bad enough when they lose your damn rucksack now we have the chance of losing everything. It's not like they don't lose bags all the time. Can you imaging your notebook and camera being tossed into the cargo hold. I think for one this stinks, if airports weren't already bad enough now this. Come on airlines get your shit together and fix the problem don't make us poor travellers suffer cause you cant do your job!!!! Fredrick Italy
If world governments kept their nose outa world politics maybe we wouldnt be having this strife
I for one think it is a good thing least I know it will land and not be blown up mid flight!
Now the latest news is fingerprinting every visitor to the UK is it England or America come on give us a break a new way to infringe on peoples rights
The whole world is mad and getting more paranoid every day soon no one will travel and countries will go broke from lack of tourism we need to fix the problems not make peoples travelling lives worse
