8 Best Dog Beaches in Sydney for You and Your Pup
Bayview Dog Park, Rowland Reserve

This dog beach in the northern suburbs of Sydney is one of the most popular with dog owners, and for good reason! In Bayview Dog Park, doggos are allowed off-leash at all times, with no pesky time restrictions. So no matter when you go, you can be assured that your pup can have a great time frolicking here.
There’s a grassy area where dogs can run free and you can also access the calm beach on Pittwater. If your pup is up for a swim, it’s not too far off to deeper waters where they can paddle to their heart’s content.
When you’re tired of all that running around, head to the nearby Newport pub which is also dog-friendly. And if your pup needs a wash or a trim, you can often find a mobile grooming service here on the weekends.
One downside is that it can get crowded on the weekends, especially when the weather’s good. Parking is also known to be pricey but if you’re lucky, you might be able to snag one of the few free one-hour parking spots.
Overall, Bayview is definitely one of the best dog beaches in Sydney.
Sirius Cove Reserve, Mosman
Time Restrictions: Dogs allowed off-leash all day on weekdays; off-leash hours are before 9.00am and after 4.00pm on weekends and public holidays
Another one of the top-rated dog beaches in Sydney is Sirius Cove in Mosman which is located just west of Taronga Zoo. Popular with families and their little canine friends, this is a cosy spot to hang out with your dog.
At this dog-friendly beach, doggos are allowed off-leash all day on weekdays, making it the perfect spot for a weekday outing. On weekends and public holidays, there are time restrictions. Off-leash hours are before 9.00am and after 4.00pm. You can check this page to confirm these restrictions.
The waters here are calm and shallow, making it ideal for walks and playtime without your pup having to go swimming into the water. With a relaxed vibe and free parking, this is a great dog-friendly beach to spend time with your loved ones.
Rose Bay Foreshore and Dumaresq Reserve, Rose Bay
Time Restrictions: None; dogs allowed off-leash at all times
In the east of Sydney, you can head to Rose Bay for a dog-friendly beach.
Let your pup run free here at the Rose Bay Foreshore at all times. With a shallow beach and an expanse of sand, there’s loads of room for off-leash fun here. But be warned that there’s no shade here, so come prepared with sunscreen and a hat!
While Rose Bay Foreshore has no restrictions on off-leash dogs, do note that the adjacent Dumaresq Reserve does have specific off-leash timings which are before 9.30am and after 4.00pm. Check the latest updates on off-leash timings here.
Flora and Ritchie Roberts Reserve, Curl Curl Beach
Time Restrictions: None; dogs allowed off-leash at all times
Head to the area between Freshwater Beach and Dee Why for a dog beach that’s open to pups all-day long. With no off-leash restrictions, the grassy dunes and lagoon are prime spots for some doggo fun at any time of the day.
Let your dog run around and explore on land or take a dip into the waters on a hot day to cool off and splash around. One thing to note is the water quality of the lagoon; it can get dirty after heavy rain so keep an eye out before letting your dog go into the water.

Greenhills Beach, Cronulla
Time Restrictions: Dogs are allowed off-leash all week but only before 10.00am and after 4.00pm
In Sydney’s southern suburbs, you can check out this dog-friendly beach on the north side of Cronulla. What sets Greenhills Beach from other dog beaches in Sydney is that it’s the only one that faces the ocean.
If your doggo loves adventure and loads of space, this is definitely the spot to take them to. There’s a long stretch of sand where you and pup can walk, run, and play until you’re both tired out.
As the only ocean-facing dog beach, this is a hotspot for dog owners so you can expect it to be crowded, particularly on the weekends. If you’re looking for some social time for your pup, this is definitely one of the best places to socialise them!
That said, there are some restrictions on off-leash dogs. Dogs are allowed off-leash all week but only before 10.00am and after 4.00pm. Do note that the off-leash area is located north of Wanda Beach; look for the area between Gate 1 and Gate 5.
Outside of those timings and on Wanda Beach, dogs are strictly prohibited. You’ll have to keep your doggo on their leash when in Wanda Reserve.

Silver Beach, Kurnell
Time Restrictions: None; dogs allowed off-leash at all times
For a quiet stretch of beach to play with your pup, head to Silver Beach in Kurnell. Look for the area between the third and fourth jetties at Bonna Point Reserve which is a dog-friendly beach (or simply look up “Kurnell Dog Beach” on Google Maps).
In this area, your dog can happily play on the sand and in the water at any time of day. But do note that dogs are not allowed at any other part of the beach so keep an eye on the boundaries of the area.
The beach isn’t too large but it’s more than adequate space for your dog to run around and play. The water here is shallow and calm so it’s best suited for a less action-packed outing. There’s street parking nearby which is convenient, plus public toilets and a drinking fountain.
Once the doggo has had its fun, head to the nearby Cook @ Kurnell Cafe for some drinks or bites.
Horderns Beach, Bundeena
Time Restrictions: From May to August, dogs are allowed off-leash at all times; from September to April, dogs are allowed off-leash on weekdays before 8.30am and after 4.30pm.
For a fun day out with your pup, head to Bundeena in the Royal National Park where you can frolic on Horderns Beach.
This expanse of sand and sea has lots of space for your dog to run and play, and from May to August, there are zero restrictions on off-leash dogs. Things get a bit more strict from September to April but you can still let your doggo run around on its from on weekdays before 8.30am and after 4.30pm.

Sandy Bay, Clontarf Reserve Beach
Time Restrictions: None; dogs allowed off-leash at all times
Along The Spit to Manly walking trail, there’s a dog-friendly beach that’s a bit of off-leash fun with your pup.
Located just 500m from The Spit lies Sandy Bay, a cosy 120m bay that allows off-leash doggos to roam around and play to their heart’s content in the water and surrounding areas. The bay here is sheltered, and the calm waters are ideal for your dog to play in.
You can also explore the rest of Clontarf Reserve Beach but your pup is only allowed on-leash between 10.00am and 6.00pm. The area has loads of great facilities like picnic ad BBQ areas, public toilets and showers, playgrounds, as well as a cafe and restaurant.
